Can't we just pile up logs and leave our grass long? The answer is yes, do that as well. Turns out some of our most important yet threatened species of invertebrates are solitary bees. Solitary bees require a very particular set of conditions to lay their larva and reproduce. By adding a Bug Hotel to your garden you can help solitary bees by providing the right environment for them to have the best chance at survival.

We've done a lot of research to get our bug hotel design just right so it provides an ideal habitat for bees.

The holes range in size for different types of solitary bee.
The holes are up to 5 inches deep to allow for plenty of larva.
The roof has a large overhang to keep the holes dry.
The feet also keep the bug hotel dry by keeping it above damp ground and splashing droplets.
Our bug hotels are made from oak meaning they are naturally durable and will last many years.
No paint or chemicals are used to treat the wood which can deter bees and other insects.

At fireside woodcraft we source all of our wood from a local nature reserve. By processing our products from the raw material we can select pieces of wood for their unique beauty while being able to guarantee they are locally sourced and sustainably harvested. We are passionate about the sustainability of our products and aspire to have a positive impact on the environment around us. We use predominantly hand tools and traditional green woodworking techniques in our home workshop. We are always experimenting in new ways to take sustainably sourced wood and traditional techniques and apply them to products that belong in the 21st century.
